Parade Floats

Traditional Mechanized Carts Dating Back to the Edo Period

This procession features six floats (a Prefecturally-selected Tangible Folk Cultural Property) from each town community and nine types of festival cars. All of the floats are mechanized carts that were created during the Edo Period.
Festival cars carry people dressed as Momotaro, Urashima Taro, Hanasaka Jiisan, and other famous characters.
The picture shows the Utsubo-guruma, the city's largest float. Its childlike dancing monkey mechanism is known for its many facial expressions.
